Firewire Surfboards Announces Taylor Jensen’s Historic Fourth World Longboard Championship Title.
La Libertad, El Salvador (Monday, October 14th): Firewire Surfboards announces today Taylor
Jensen’s historic fourth World Longboard Championship Title, tying his Father-in-law Nat Young’s
long held world record.
In 3 – 4 foot surf at El Sunzal in La Libertad, Taylor illustrated the speed, power, flow, and finesse necessary to triumph over a roster of the worlds’ best at the famous point break, winning the Surf City El Salvador Longboard Championship.
“Winning in El Salvador is a really amazing experience,” remarks Taylor. “This country has embraced surfing in a way I’ve never seen anywhere else. The waves are fantastic, the people are beautiful,
and it’s become one of our favorite places to travel as a family.”
With more than a decade between Taylor’s previous World Championship Title and his most recent, Taylor expresses gratitude for his good fortune to be able to win across two distinct judging criteria in two separate eras of competitive longboarding, saying “To be able to win titles across both disciplines feels like a bit of a tribute to my hero’s and the guys I looked up to growing up - Bonga,
Joel, Colin, Josh, Beau… True watermen of longboarding who rode all types of equipment and prided themselves on their ability to surf everything."
Having won World Titles under both ‘performance’ judging criteria and today’s ‘traditional’ criteria, Taylor is quick to credit his longtime surfboard shaper Dan Mann and also his recent collaboration with Stu Kenson.
After 16 years riding shapes exclusively from Dan Mann like the TJ Pro and TJ Pro V , at surf shops everywhere in I-Bolic Core Technology with Volcanic Lamination, Taylor today has formed a productive collaboration with Kenson, someone Mann calls a longtime shaping mentor.
“I was riding the Singleton model this year,” says Taylor, sharing that “It’s a shape I worked on with Stu after Dan introduced me to him. We refined this shape to fit the current WSL judging criteria
while still allowing me to leverage my performance ability. The Singleton gave me a tremendous advantage this year and helped me separate from the field.”
Scheduled to release at Surf Shops this November built in Helium Core Technology with a Variable Flex Stringer, the Singleton is for perfect point breaks abroad and average conditions at home, in
waves sized 1 – 6 feet.
