JETTY LAUNCHES CHARITABLE CAMPAIGN TO AID COMMUNITIES AFFECTED BY HURRICANE HELENE
Resiliency and Aid is in the East Coast Surf and Outdoor Brand’s DNA
Manahawkin, NJ – October 4, 2024 – Jetty, the East Coast surf apparel company with a growing presence in the outdoor and active lifestyle markets, today announced its Unite+Rebuild campaign that raises money for those affected by Hurricane Helene. The New Jersey-based brand has a tradition of coming to the aid of communities that extends back almost two decades.
Jetty’s latest charitable initiative includes a donation page to accept funds as well as a special edition Unite+Rebuild t-shirt and hoodie from which 100% of profits will go directly to the communities most affected through vetted partnerships. Jetty prints all its own apparel, so fast turnarounds lead to relief funds being made available quickly.
Jetty was founded in 2003, and in its infancy, the brand rallied to create a t-shirt with profits thathelped Louisiana residents in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. Fundraising became a focus of the brand early on and remains at its core.
In 2012, Superstorm Sandy created a sea change, not only for the Mid-Atlantic shores where it made landfall, but for Jetty. While the founders and many employees were displaced, they orchestrated a historic relief effort that began with a wildly popular t-shirt. That simple design and local initiative ultimately morphed into a full community movement that led to the formation of the Jetty Rock Foundation.
Jetty’s non-profit arm serves to protect our oceans and waterways, and support those who build their lives around them. In addition to their many clean water initiatives, the Jetty Rock Foundation continues to honor their storm relief roots sending aid to Texas, the Carolinas, and the Caribbean after successive landfalling hurricanes in recent years.
Some of the very folks who build their lives around the waterways from Florida’s Apalachee Bay to the French Broad River of Western North Carolina, lost nearly everything to Hurricane Helene in late September. With today’s campaign launch, over 1 million residents of the Southeast are still without power.
“We knew it would be a wild hurricane season,” said Jetty Creative Director and Partner, John Clifford. “September sort of lulled us to sleep, but when we saw Helene intensify from a Cat 1 to Cat 4 storm so quickly, we understood what it was capable of. It wasn’t soon after that we started seeing the news reports and hearing from friends and family how devastating it was over such a large area.”
While Jetty’s relief efforts are often and will still be partially directed to coastal regions –fishing villages and surf towns – this time attention is needed far inland.
“It wasn’t long ago that this was us, evacuating our barrier island for a storm like we’d never seen before,” added Jetty Chief Commercial Officer and Co-Founder Cory Higgins. “We’re usually coming to aid in a zone where we’ve surfed and have those coastal relationships. But this storm just had so much moisture when it hit the mountains. We’ve been so embraced by the outdoor world; we sell in outfitters and snow shops in Western North Carolina, Tennessee, Georgia, and Virginia. These are all part of our family, too.”
The Jetty Unite+Rebuild Hurricane Helene Relief t-shirts and hoodies are now available for pre-order at www.jettylife.com. In the coming weeks they will also be available at select retailers nationwide.100% of profits will directly benefit those in need.
