Surf Industry Members Association Announces 2025 Waterman’s Ball Honorees

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. — The Surf Industry Members Association (SIMA) is proud to announce the honorees for the 2025 Waterman’s Ball, recognizing outstanding individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions to the sport of surfing and ocean conservation.

“As we celebrate another Waterman’s Ball, we are proud to continue our mission of supporting those who tirelessly work to protect our oceans, beaches, and waves,” said Paul Naude, SIMA Environmental Fund President. “The SIMA Environmental Fund is honored to play a role in funding critical environmental initiatives, and this year’s event underscores our commitment to safeguarding the very places that make surfing possible. Together, we can drive lasting change and ensure that the beauty of our coastlines endures for years to come.”

SIMA Waterperson of the Year: Caroline Marks

Caroline Marks, a trailblazing professional surfer, World Champion, and Olympic Gold medalist, will receive the prestigious Waterperson of the Year Award. Marks has redefined women’s surfing with her powerful style and record-breaking achievements. Her influence extends beyond competition, embodying the spirit and culture of surfing while inspiring future generations of surfers worldwide.

SIMA Lifetime Achievement Award: Shaun Tomson

Shaun Tomson, legendary surfer, entrepreneur, and motivational speaker, will be honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award. Known for his significant contributions to surfing culture and personal empowerment, Tomson’s legacy as a surfing icon continues to inspire both within the sport and in broader cultural circles. His lifetime of achievements has left an indelible mark on the surfing community.

SIMA Environmentalist of the Year: Surfrider Foundation

The Surfrider Foundation will be recognized with the Environmentalist of the Year Award for its four-decade-long commitment to protecting coastlines and surf breaks. As a leader in coastal protection, the Surfrider Foundation has worked tirelessly to keep our beaches and waters clean and safe for surfers and beachgoers alike. This recognition highlights the organization’s unwavering dedication to preserving our oceans for future generations.

These distinguished honorees will be celebrated at the Waterman’s Ball on June 13th at The Ranch at Laguna Beach in Laguna Beach, California. The event, which raises funds for the SIMA Environmental Fund, will feature a live and silent auction, gourmet dining, and an evening of socializing with industry leaders and surf enthusiasts.
