To help stoke the imagination, the Surf Industry Members Association has a few fun suggestions on what shops, brands, reps, and industry members can do on this day of commemorating the heart and soul of the surf industry.
Allyship: On and Off The Waves
Joyce Hoffman, the first woman to surf the Banzai Pipeline, and Vipe Desai of Surf Industry Members Association (SIMA) joined Mary Buhay from Ragan Communications at their recent Leadership Council retreat in Dana Point, CA to discuss the convening power of surfing's "stoke" - the higher purpose that establishes allyship on and off the waves.

For more than 30 years the SIMA Environmental Fund has been providing grants to organizations around the globe that are addressing the ongoing ocean health issues facing our coastlines. As we near the 35th Anniversary of our environmental efforts, we continue to look for ways to expand our fundraising efforts beyond the annual Waterman’s gathering.

The large crowd at Pier Plaza was treated to the ISA’s signature Sands of the World ceremony, with a member from each nation pouring sand from their local beach into a single container symbolizing the peaceful gathering of nations of the world through surfing.
